Messy TikTok drama, $110k pettiness & a cucumber influencer 👀🍿🧃
Hi Wrecklings!
This week we have a healthy mix of all kinds of scandal and drama:
“Founder, CEO of Telegram arrested at French airport on multiple charges”- This feels entirely unsurprising given he’s the founder of Telegram.
“Love triangle drama breaks out between rich influencer girls as fans brutally roast man at center of their spat: 'Imagine fighting over... him'“- I love messy TikTok drama.
“Peloton to ruin the secondhand market by charging a $95 ‘used equipment activation fee’”- Wow, that’s super annoying for folks looking to buy a bike off of Craiglist or FB Marketplace.
“Meet the cucumber influencer”- I’d never shut up if I managed to accomplish this.
“Influencer who loves to show off her freebies on social media learns VERY harsh lesson while vacationing in Paris”- I thought this was social media 101 but guess not.
“Mass. couple says pickleball noise keeping people from buying Sagamore Beach home”- Very curious about what they’re still asking for in terms of price.
“Martin Shkreli ordered to surrender his copies of rare Wu-Tang Clan album”- This dude once popped up on my OkCupid back in like 2013 and I’m mad I didn’t keep the screenshot
“US sues RealPage over rent-setting software that allegedly drove up prices”- Well-deserved.
“Ex-Vitol Trader Pleads Guilty To International Bribery Scheme”- It still delights me when people actually use code words.
“‘Megalopolis’ Trailer’s Fake Critic Quotes Were AI-Generated, Lionsgate Drops Marketing Consultant Responsible For Snafu”-Ooof, I don’t really understand how this got green-lit to publishing.
“Indignant shopper in China makes Louis Vuitton staff count $110k in cash for 2 hours, then leaves”- Assuming it was the same shift staff, I applaud this level of pettiness.
“Airbnb's struggles go beyond people spending less. It's losing some travelers to hotels.”- Ok, I knew HotelTonight had been acquired but I didn’t realize by Airbnb?!
“Oklahoma revokes license of teacher who gave class QR code to Brooklyn library in book-ban protest”- I love that this librarian now works at the Brooklyn Library, I want to shake her hand.
“2023’s Magic: The Gathering heist spawned 2024's best Gen Con cosplay”- A super fluffy story but pretty funny.
“Chick-fil-A is reportedly launching a streaming service for some reason”- What. Why.
🔏“I Took a Ride in a ‘Self-Driving’ Tesla and Never Once Felt Safe”- Alarming but not at all surprising.
