NyQuil chicken, the Theranos of trucks & Beyond Meat nose bites 👀🍿🧃
Oh, and the Kardashian giveaways are finally being sued.
Hi Wreckings!
I’m listening to a fascinating podcast episode from Missing Pages about a woman that was like the Anna Delvey of the publishing world— including leaving someone high-and-dry in a foreign country. Highly recommend listening (#NotAnAd).
And with that!:
“‘I Can’t Believe It’: Magnus Carlsen Resigns After One Move in Chess Rematch With Hans Niemann”- Move over Queen’s Gambit, there’s some real-life chess drama afoot. This update comes on the heels of a rumor involving a rather untraditional way of cheating… involving butts.
“Beyond Meat COO arrested for biting man’s nose near Razorback Stadium”- Well that wasn’t very vegetarian of him.
“Gap and Kanye West Are Ending Their Partnership”- This feels a little like seeing a super unlikely couple break up— sad but not at all surprising that it didn’t work out? Ye also did a weird interview where he talks about wanting to outlaw stairs and talk like Yoda…
“FDA Warning- Nyquil-Marinated Chicken Is Disgusting And Dangerous”- Do we think there’s now someone at the FDA who’s one job is to keep an eye on TikTok for these horribly bad food ideas?
“Fake Ukrainian heiress: ‘My ex-lover forced me to become Anna de Rothschild’”- I’m sorry…This girl’s boyfriend did WHAT do try allegedly “winning her back”???
“When the Queen Died, Someone Had to Tell the Bees”- This is sort of sweet. And I’m not judging anyone because I asked Robert the Doll for his permission twice before snapping his photo— because there’s only harm in not doing it?
“Heinz, Waitrose, and over 800 other brands lost rights to use the royal coat of arms on products after the queen died. Now they must prove the royal family uses their products to get it back.”- Imagine if we had the American equivalent for the presidency, the list wouldn’t ever be nearly as posh.
“Finger-pointing among execs begins at Goldman Sachs, immediately turns nasty”- Amid the GS layoffs making headlines, its CEO DJ’ed at Lavo this past weekend… 🆒🆒
“The unhappiest place on Earth! Disney fans complain Orlando resort is filled with broken-down, faulty rides and broken robot characters as CEO Bob Chapek is condemned for inflating prices”- Getting stuck on a ride and having to hear “It’s A Small World” really does not sound like something I’d want to pay for the privilege of.
“Australian women who flew to the US for Burning Man festival express their surprise at how 'creepy' American men are: 'It was a big culture shock'“- *Looking up flights to Australia and see what dating is like there*
“TikTok Helped People Scam Their Way Into Fashion Week”- Scam is a strong word here, but it definitely ruined a bunch of publicists’ email inboxes. I also love some good NYFW shade, like in this NY Mag piece.
“Kourtney Kardashian Should Call Patagonia’s CEO”- Speaking of fashion event fails, this one sounds like it was a doozy.
“This Song Will Break Your MacBook’s Speakers”- This reminds me of the time I blew out my 1997 Honda Civic speakers by playing emo music too loudly— very much by accident.
“Instagram Model Who Broke Her Mom Out of Prison Given 7 Years”- I’m definitely a fan of spending time at home but I can’t imagine being on house arrest for 7.5 years.
“How Much Did The NYT Spend On Passive-Aggressive Lunch Boxes”- I love this Gawker’s pettiness of calculating the cost of these lunchboxes— discount code included.
“Trial Begins for Truck Maker Accused of Duping Investors”- I’m getting strong Theranos vibes from this one, particularly with the company doing shady things like, “producing a video in which a truck was rolled down an incline to make it look as if the company had a working prototype.”
“Women Turned Off by Billionaire’s Conservative Dating App”- I am delighted at what a disaster this is turning out to be. I also may have a cheeky TikTok up my sleeve for this one— follow us and keep an eye out for it!
“The Sugar Babies of Stanford University”- A fascinating read about a new breed of sugar babies…
“An Amazon manager told staff to collect donations if they wanted to keep buying cereal for their office”- Love the spin on “buying your own breakfast, but make it communal.” For those with an Insider subscription, there’s a more detailed article about Amazon’s “frupidity” here.
“Oops, Minnesota Accidentally Legalized THC-Spiked Seltzer”- Love to see lawmakers being intentional with their decisions!
“Kim Kardashian, Scott Disick Sued Over Alleged Scam 'Lottery'- Company Behind Giveaway Says It's All Legit”- This Buzzfeed article we included earlier this year broke down how these giveaways work. Now, if they’re making money off of selling people’s data on top of that… sneaky, sneaky.
“Small Influencers Are Saying They’re Getting Fewer Brand Deals As Recession Panic Escalates”- This was a fascinating read, especially as a publicist, I rarely saw traction as a result from working with celebs / massive influencers, micro-influencers always equaled a better ROI.
